Hi Rob,

I like your project.

I am considering trying it on a stripped down toyota 2 w-drive pickup so I can create a battery tray beneath the bed to extend the range (I am 34 miles from work).

I have two suggestions for your project;

1) check into heat exchanger technology for your air conditioning. I believe that their might be a 12v electric version available for RV use that could keep you cool.

2) go to youtube.com and type in "Aptera popular mechanics". Ceck out PM's test drive of this vehicle (300MPG). That is what I want as soon as they become available later this year or early next. I think you'll like it.

Dave,

I'm happy with mine and I think it's a good platform for a first EV. I have no idea about the transmission - you may be able to buy a manual and swap it out. If you've got the budget then you could also consider an AC system with direct drive.

I've got a 1995 RAV4 with an automatic transmission. It's got almost 150K miles and just lost the timing belt and it was recently totalled due to hail damage.

I'm not as concerned with the hail damage or the milage as much as I am the need to convert from auto to manual. I want to start a EV conversion and like the idea of using a RAV4 but is this car worth the effort?
