Dimensions

For reference, the critical dimensions on the RAV are:

  • Wheel well height 31″
  • Engine Compartment: 30″ wide, 24″ deep, 28″ firewall to radiator, radiator = 4″
  • Rear cargo: 38″ wide, 30″ deep, 40″ high
  • Unused Rear axle well: 7″ deep, 7″ wide, 6′ long
  • Gas Tank (straddles axle well): 24″ long, 48″ wide, 6″ deep.

The axle well extends above the floor.  Top of well to lowest component under car is 13″.  In addition, there are numerous available bolt holes in the frame on either side of the well.

EV America

I’m going ahead with EV America after dealing with them.  Unlike the other EV sources, they are quick to respond and answer my questions.  They have a wealth of information to support the conversion.

I’m also very happy with the decision to go with DC.  It is much less expensive and very practical for a first conversion.  Regen breaking is not worth the extra $.  DC is limited to 144 volts, but should be fine.  Bob @ EV America is helping me choose the right # of batteries to get my target range.
