Getting Ready

No sooner did I get the garage cleaned out then the kids setup a fort. Nature & garages abhor a vacuum. I need 6′x14′ plus work area. We’ll be pretty tight with all the bikes, etc. I also bought some jacks, a lift, and a drill press. I’ll track them in a new category from “conversion expenses” since the EV account bought them.

Pow-Ah?

The flurry of activity on the EVDL about EEstore’s Super Caps turned up an interesting rule of thumb:  An small EV uses 250 watt-hours per mile.  The RAV is heavy, so assume 500.
The Trojan J150 Storage Batteries that I’m going to use each supply 150 AmpHours (or 150/12 = 1.8 kwatt-hours).  12 cells would provide 21.6 kw-h.  Assume max drain to 30% of charge = 15 kw-h available power.  That means an expected range of 30 miles.

This is what EV America calculated for the project based on a much more sophisticated model.
