The final step before mating the motor and the transmission is to drill out the 3 final holes in the mounting plate. We did not get to them last week because they required some extra effort and we ran out of time. These holes are tricky because they are not through-holes. This means that I have to align them without a guide mark.
Today, I got some tracing paper and tape to mark the last holes. It turned out to be tricker than I thought because the paper was very mobile on the plate. The picture is from my first attempt - not the successful attempt. I ended up having to cut down the paper to 1″ square and tape all around it. Then I rubbed the paper to draw the hole. Next, I used the spring pins to align the mounting plate. Once the plate was aligned and mated to the bell, I make sure the tape was sticking to plate. Finally, I estimated the center of the hole, paid ohm-age to the EV god, and drilled.

What a pain, but it’s finished. After all that fun, it was off of the hardware store to get the right length bolts.
