Advanced DC motor is “advanced” at factory

I got confirmation from Bob w/ EV America that the 9″ Advanced DC motor is “advanced” at the factory.  This means that they adjust (advance) the position of the brushes slightly from neutral to improve the performance of the motor.  I think that some non-EV uses of the motor do not require advancing.  Advancing is part of the reason that the motor cannot run in reverse and I’ll have to use the transmission to go backwards.  If the motor is not advanced (or advanced backwards) then the brushes will burn up and damage the motor.

Thanks to Chris R w/ AustinEV to bringing this up and making sure that I checked on it.

I said work ON the car, not IN it!

Alex was ahead on his homework and got to spend some time stripping out old parts. He decided that it was easier to get into the engine area than lean over the fenders.
