Axles are in! Leo saves the day.

I asked Leo to come by and help me with re-installing the front axles. I figured he had a pickle fork since he’d removed the axles on Day 0. He (and Alex) promptly demonstrated that the pickle fork looks strangely like my thumb and index finger made into the shape of an L. A quick bang with the mallet and the tie rod popped out!

It took Leo (and Alex) about 25 minutes to remount both front axles. He looked at the right axle support and asked how I would handle that. Normally the support is attached to the ICE. He said it has a relatively little tolerance on the seal between the axle and transmission so I need to make sure the support is strong and positioned just right.

After that, we talked about my next steps and where to put the p/s and vacuum pump. It looks like the p/s pump has to go right above the axle support and below the batteries. He suggested wedging the vacuum pump into a little nook under the wiper motor. He also showed me where to put in the transmission oil.
Now I’m ready to start building battery boxes!

Ack, I’m a car geek now.

I have to admit it, I actually bought the May issue of Car and Driver.  It’s like Glamor, but for men: it’s got little sample packets of motor oil between the pages and a multi-page spread of car bras.  Surprise, it also has lots of car ads.

If you’re about to stage an intervention - don’t.  I just wanted to read their coverage of the electric drag racer White Zombie that the EVDL has been talking about.

As yes, I know what your thinking: I already had become a car geek.  Now you have the proof.
