Shiver me timbers…controller board cooling system ready

I’ve completed most of the work for mounting the Curtis 1231C controller to the control board. This included drilling holes in the heat sink, board, and fan mount. The best approach is to use a pencil to rub the hole location onto several sheets of paper. Then drill through the paper to locate the holes.

After drilling, I used heat sink compound to attach the aluminum heat sink to the controller. Finally I cut out a hole for the fan.

There were so many steps that I made a video of the process.

Note 6/17: After looking at the layout, AustinEV members recommended changing this design so that the fan blows over the cooling fins on top of the controller.  The aluminum plate does not have enough surface area to be an effective heat sink for the fan.

Schematics: advice from Larry E

I asked Larry how he turned off the check engine light for his RAV4 ‘97.  He answer was “cut the wire.”  Unfortunately, I’m trying to avoid pulling the dash board so that is a last choice option.

He also suggested that I “go to ahdol.com and for $12 you get a complete and accurate set of the entire car as a pdf.”
