Green EVness: how I love thee, let me count the ways

It’s been a while since I’ve commented on just how deliciously good EVs are as transport and for the environment. I’ll list them out as part of the global conversation for blog action day:

  1. EVs emit no pollution. While electricity generation can be polluting, it can be generated cleanly and keeps getting cleaner (my electrons are wind generated). Have you ever visited an oil refinery? I used to live near several in “Cancer Alley, Louisiana.” Further, gas is nasty stuff and quite poisonous.
  2. EVs are more efficient than gas cars. RAVolt is 100% more efficient per kwh than it was as a gasser. Most of the energy goes into going, not heat.
  3. Electricity is domestic energy. Our oil purchases are funding terrorists and dragging us into foreign wars.
  4. Electricity is hugely fungible. We can store it, transfer it, and spot generate it. The potential for vehicle to grid (V2G) and site solar production is tremendous.  Gas supplies are geographically limited and remote.
  5. EVs are simpler. Gas cars have become incredibly complex machines to eek out minimal MPG improvements and meet lenient pollution standards. EVs are basically solid state devices.
  6. EVs have great performance. Some of the fastest bikes and cars on the road are electric. Even the RAVolt with 800# of old school lead acid batteries has decent acceleration.

Note: I include PHEV in the general class of EVs. I believe they are the logical transition technology for America.
