I love it when my friends (blog, community, both) send me links and other information. It adds momentum to my somewhat unexpected drive to contribute to the blogosphere with RAVolt and other blogs that I maintain for my community. So it surprises me to find a topic, like Telsa Motors, that I don’t post about.

Teala Motors recently made headlines in a WSJ Online article showing off their hubris about their admittedly kick-ass EV. Which, not surprisingly, also inflamed EV bloggers like Earth2Tech. You’re welcome to read the article, but it’s really not that exciting. Tesla, of course, thinks they have the magic EV sauce and everyone else does not.
I think Tesla has/is a great story. Selling EVs as a vanity car is a great idea, plus their evangelizing helps get the conversation started and I appreciate that. My experience is that the conversation typically ends there if the listener is a typical post-teen adrenaline car nut drooling on a glossy of Tesla’s styling and performance statistics. The Auto Industry spends lots of money convincing buyers to fit this stereotype because they make more emotional buying decisions.
I write this blog because I want to have a deeper conversation about the technology, business, challenges, and the social impacts of grid vehicles (EV & PHEV). Posting about Tesla is retelling a story that I expect my audience has already heard.
