Video Library

As a rule, I try to keep videos short. That usually means that they are collections of photos and not really video at all. Here are my current offerings:

  1. Engine Removal (04:26) We removed the gas engine from my 96 RAV4 as the first step in converting it to an Electric Car (EV)
  2. Workday #2 (02:39) RAVolt EV conversion continues by cutting down the mounting plate for the transmission and drilling holes needed to put everything together
  3. Engine Mating (01:40) Mating the new electric motor to the RAV’s manual transmission using the new adapter plate from EV America.
  4. Cooling fan for EV Motor Controller (01:17) The Curtis 1231C controller uses passive cooling, but EVAmerica recommends adding a heat sink and a cooling fan to help dissipate heat.
  5. Crimping the Series Shunt (01:25) Shows how to crimp 2/0 cable for the shunt. The RAVolt’s Advanced DC 9″ motor is series wound so a shunt is required between the rotor and stator
  6. Maiden Voyage (02:51) The RAVolt’s first drive as an EV. The conversion of the 96 RAV4 started on 1/28/07 and took approximately 120 hours and $10k.
  7. RAVolt Control Board Test (00:17) This is video from my camera and not edited. It shows testing the contactors the first time I powered up the control board.
